About Us

This is where my V needs to write a bit about who we are and how (and why) we ended up planning this trip… could be a while before anything is actually here !

Yeah yeah yeah…I know I’m the worlds biggest procrastinator, but things get done eventually – V 🙂

Well, our friends and family know who we are so I’m not gonna say too much  on that, but I think I’m going to take credit for coming up with this travel idea.

Some background

Before Sim came along, I was planning on quitting my job in SA, selling my flat and going travelling by myself. But I’m a big chicken, so I settled for quitting my job, renting out my flat and working in the UK. That was well over a year ago.  Then Sim came along, and one hot afternoon, lying in a room in Lalibela in Ethiopia he said “Hey remember that idea you had about travelling?…Maybe we should do that.” And then we promptly pushed the idea to one side and got on with our lives, occasionally bringing it up every now and then with vague plans of routes, times and costs slowly forming.

Well, its still a pretty fuzzy plan, but we eventually decided on 6 months and £50 per day as our budget which seemed about right (its not a completely arbitrary figure – there was some thought put into the budget… promise). With the idea being, we just go until the cash runs out.  I suspect we are going to be living  on bread and water for most of our trip through Scandinavia and Russia and we may have to give up some of the loops on the map, but hey we’re flexible.

Why we are doing it?

Ummm…it seems like a good idea? No really. We both like to see cool places and do cool things. We’re not doing this to ‘find ourselves’, I get lost a lot, but that’s where a  GPS comes in handy. We just want to see a bit more of the big wide world up close and in person is all. And for the record, we aren’t travellers, we’re tourists and proudly so.Plus if we don’t do it now, we never will.
